For many veterans, home is where independence and peace are found. But as daily tasks become more challenging with age, support is often needed. Thankfully, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers programs that can help veterans receive the care they deserve—right at home.
Why It Matters
Millions of veterans qualify for VA-funded home care, but only a small percentage are using their benefits. Many simply don’t know how to get started or don’t realize they qualify. But here’s the truth: You do not need to be 100% disabled to receive home care benefits. Moderate needs like help with bathing, dressing, meal preparation, or mobility may be enough to qualify.
VA In-Home Care Options
Homemaker & Home Health Aide (HHA) Care
Provides trained caregivers to help with daily tasks like bathing, cooking, companionship, and mobility support. Visits can be occasional or daily, based on need.
Family Caregiver Support
The VA also offers programs for family members who care for veterans at home. These programs can offer training, resources, and financial support. Contact your local VA office to learn more.
Who Qualifies?
You may qualify if you:
- Are enrolled in the VA healthcare system
- Have a legitimate need for help with two or more daily living activities
- Do not need to have a service-connected disability
